According to the latest reports of food scientist from State Pennsylvania State University, green tea cures oral cancer because it contains a compound epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) which helps to cure the oral cancer and is also helpful in fighting other types of cancer. ECGC destroys the cancer cells without damaging the healthy cells and just keeping them intact.

The actual working phenomena of ECGC compound is still a mystery for the scientists and researches are still in progress to reveal the mechanism behind the whole process.
“EGCG is doing something to damage the mitochondria and that mitochondrial damage sets up a cycle causing more damage and it spirals out, until the cell undergoes programmed cell death,” said Joshua Lambert, associate professor of food science and co-director of Penn State’s Center for Plant and Mushroom Foods for Health.
Lambert concluded by saying that "ECGC plays an important role in mitochondrial function and in anti-oxidant response in lots of tissues in the body, so the idea that EGCG might selectively affect the activity of sirtuin 3 in cancer cells - to turn it off - and in normal cells - to turn it on - is probably applicable in multiple kinds of cancers."

Green tea is also recommended for heart patients, as it contains antioxidants that helps in burning excessive and harmful fat. These harmful fats gets stored as toxic substances in our body and leads to blockage of heart thus resulting in high BP, increased chances of heart attacks.
