Indian squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has been announced and it has surprised many around there with the inclusion and exclusion of many players.
The biggest surprise was exclusion of WC 11 man of the tournament, Yuvraj Singh. Only four players i.e. Dhoni, Raina, Kohli, Ashwin are retained in the squad for WC 2015 to be held in Australia and New Zeland.
Reports have suggested that team coach Duncan Fletcher and manager Ravi Shasthri wanted to retain Yuvraj Singh in 15 men squad, despite being not included in possible 30’s, but Indian skipper had different mindset regarding the team squad.
MS Dhoni wanted to include Stuart Binny in the squad because he is a medium pacer all-rounder in comparison to Yuvraj’s slow left arm bowling. Yuvraj Singh played his last ODI team against South Africa at 11th December 2013. A major cause for Yuvraj’s surprise was his back to back three centuries in Ranji Trophy recently, but all in vain.
Earlier, prior the selection reports suggested that Yuvarj Singh was seen as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja who has been declared as fit now. But now inclusion of Stuart Binny has raised many doubts that all is not well between Indian skipper MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh who were earlier two of best friends.
One more possible cause for Stuart Binny’s selection was because of his father’s current position in Indian team selection panel as one of the five selectors.
Stuart Binny has played just 6 ODI and scored a total of 40 runs at an average of 13.33 which absolutely cannot be a base for his inclusion in World Cup squad. Many cricket pundits are defending his place in squad because of his considerable bowling performance. He has taken 6 wickets in his 6 matches with a bowling average of 13 and best bowling performance of 4 wickets in a match and that too against Bangladesh.
But Stuart Binny has still made a new record by his inclusion in squad as he might be the first player in the world to be included in World Cup squad for any team with such poor performance.
Many cricket pundits have raised the question for a strong reason for Stuart Binny's selection and taking this matter in their own way by treating it as a case of internal politics in BCCI.
Despite all debate all we can do at this time is just to wait for right time, as time will only decide that such a big decision will prove to be right or not.
