Prior to the visit of US President Barrack Obama, Delhi High Court has made a commendable remark about the security of women in Delhi.
In a statement by Delhi HC on Friday raised questions about Government’s seriousness in providing safety to their citizens especially women.
Centre and Delhi Police has jointly agreed to install 15,000 CCTV cameras during Obama’s 3 day visit to India.
"Because of a foreign President you do it, but not for Indian citizens. If we direct you to do it for Indians, you do in months and years, else you do it in weeks!" a bench of Justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva remarked.
Taking extra safety measures for a foreign President is no wrong, after all it is about pride of our country. But it would be much better if these type of rigorous efforts could be taken for public also.
HC's observations came when amicus curiae Meera Bhatia informed it that Delhi will get 15,000 extra CCTV's during Obama's visit. Bhatia, who was appointed amicus to monitor progress in making Delhi safer for women following the Nirbhaya gang rape.
Meera also pleaded from HC to continue with these cameras after the return of US President keeping in mind the deteriorating law and order conditions for women in the capital.
Mrs. Bhatia earlier also suggested for installing CCTV cameras in the capital but no such steps were taken during by UPA government from 2013 till formation of new government.
Taking such steps would help police to a large extent to reduce such unfortunate incidents in capital.
